 Abstract:  Joseph Leighton Jackson (1832-1921) was a Clyde, Ohio, resident who fought with the Union Army during the American Civil War and worked as a traveling salesman in Ohio and Indiana. He later moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a night watchman at the Treasury Department and later as the proprietor of a bookstore. The collection consists of a journal from Jackson's years as a traveling salesman which contains a brief autobiography. Included is a transcript of the autobiography.
