The project, organized to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Cleveland, Ohio's Jewish community, resulted in the traveling exhibit "Founders: Cleveland's Jewish Community Before the Civil War," which opened at the Western Reserve Historical Society Museum in 1990. The collection consists of computer printout data sheets of 850 (primarily German) Jews known to have emigrated from Europe to Cleveland, Ohio between the 1830s and 1861. Each data sheet includes an individual's earliest known name and variant spellings. He helped to establish the Cleveland Jewish Archives at the Western Reserve Historical Society in 1976. He provided research for a number of books on Cleveland Jewish history and co-authored the book Merging traditions: Jewish life in Cleveland. The collection consists of correspondence, research notes, lectures and slide presentation scripts, newspaper clippings, reports and oral history transcripts.
