Morris Stamm emigrated from Russia and came to Cleveland in 1916, where he was a laborer for 61 years. He joined the Communist Party in 1928 and was a shopfloor organizer for the United Electrical Workers in the Cleveland area. Stamm fought as a foot soldier with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War from 1937-1938. He married Eleanor Ginsberg in 1940. In the 1970s, Morris and Eleanor led the Cleveland Committee for a Democratic Spain, and were highly involved in the Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. The collection consists of correspondence between Morris Stamm and other members of the Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives. In 1968, he received a bachelor's degree form Occidental College. Refusing to serve in the Vietnam conflict, Miller performed service as a conscientious objector from 1980-1972 at University Hospitals, Cleveland, Ohio. In 1992, he was a probation officer for the Cleveland Heights Municipal Court. Miller has been active in many socialist and political organizations since the late 1960s. He traveled to countries in Asia; including China, North Vietnam, and Laos; and to Nicaragua.
