He became a professional pilot in 1929, flying amphibian aircraft from Cleveland, Ohio, to Detroit, Michigan, for Thompson Aeronautical Corporation. He later flew the Cleveland to Nashville, Tennessee run for American Airlines. Van Sickle began a small machine shop, called Cleveland Aircraft Products Company (CAPCO), in his home in Rocky River, Ohio. By 1945, office headquarters had moved to Ontario Street in downtown Cleveland. The company produced wheel and brake mechanisms for aircraft. Van Sickle married Edith Newman of Cleveland in 1931. She trained in the cadet flying program while attending West Virginia State College, receiving her pilot's license in 1940. During World War II she taught aircraft mechanics at the War Production Training School in Baltimore, Maryland, while simultaneously working as a secretary in the industrial department of the Baltimore Urban League. In 1942, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and married F. Benjamin McIntyre; they had two daughters, Dianne McIntyre and Donna McIntyre Whyte. The collection consists of photocopies of original pilot log books, publications concerning aeronautics, newspaper clippings, and correspondence. The collection pertains to Doroty McIntyre's career in the aeronautics industry.
