He was the first settler of Willoughby, Ohio, sheriff of Trumbull County, land agent for Aaron Olmstead of the Connecticut Land Company, a delegate to the Ohio Constitutional Convention, an Ohio legislator, and Clerk of Courts and Treasurer of Huron County. His son, Benjamin Abbot, was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Society of Milan, Ohio (inc. 1828). His grandson, David, is also reflected in the collection.
