The GAR worked on both the state and national levels for issues such as pensions and the establishment of soldiers' homes. By 1908 there were a total of 8 GAR posts in Cleveland, with a membership of 886. Five additional posts were located elsewhere in Cuyahoga County, with 129 additional members. The collection consists of a record of the Civil War service of living and deceased members of the post.
