Hoke is an Ohio Republican who served in the United States House of Representatives for two consecutive terms from 1992-1996. Born in Lakewood, Ohio, he attended Western Reserve Academy and Amherst College. He earned a law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1980. Hoke won Congressional office in Ohio's 10th District in 1992. During his terms as representative, Hoke was a strong supporter of term limits on representatives and advocated a balanced budget. He sponsored or co-sponsored several bills, including the Fan Freedom and Protection Act, the Balanced Budget Act, and Contingent Fee Amendment. Hoke was defeated by Dennis Kucinich in his 1996 re-election campaign. Bolton served on the committees of Indian Affairs (1940) and Foreign Affairs (1941-1968), participating in foreign aid hearings and conducting study trips abroad, including a trip to the Middle East in 1947 and one to Africa in 1955. She served as a congressional delegate to the United Nations Eighth General Assembly, and was involved with the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and helped organize the Accokee Foundation to protect the Potomac shoreline across from Mount Vernon. Mrs. Bolton had a long-time interest in nursing and nursing education and provided funds to establish the nursing school at Western Reserve University, as well as founding the Payne Fund to assist a variety of educational and other charitable programs.
