In 1901, several congregations joined the Council of Jewish Women in funding the school, and in 1918 high school classes were established. In 1928, the Jewish Welfare Federation of Cleveland included the Council Schools in its budget. In 1947, the Council Schools, along with 6 branches, were renamed the United Jewish Religious Schools and became affiliated with the Bureau of Jewish Education. As the Jewish population moved to the suburbs, the Schools closed branches and established new ones. In 1970, three branches remained.
