The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, account books, deeds, newspaper clippings, and other papers reflecting Mewett's interest in the local history and early settlements of the area around Gates Mills, Ohio, in the Western Reserve. Solon's wife, Emily Allen, was the daughter of Dr. Dudley Allen, and the sister of prominent surgeon Dudley P. Allen. Solon and Emily's daughter, Julia Severance Millikin, was the wife of Benjamin Millikin, a noted Cleveland opthalmologist.
