Fuchs Mizrachi School (f. 1983) is an Orthodox Jewish day school, preschool through grade 12, located in the former Northwood Elementary School in University Heights, Ohio. The school, originally called Bet Sefer Mizrachi of Cleveland, was renamed Fuchs Bet Sefer Mizrachi in 1994 in honor of benefactors Susan and Leonard Fuchs; in 1999 it was renamed Fuchs Mizrachi School. (Bet Sefer is "school" in Hebrew.)
The school was established by a group of Zionist Orthodox Jewish friends, all of whom were parents of growing children. They founded the school, incorporating in its curriculum political and religious Zionism, Orthodox Judaism, modern Hebrew, and rigorous secular studies, a combination of factors they believed was not available in the other Jewish day schools then in Cleveland. The school began in 1983 with a total enrollment of eighteen in preschool and kindergarten. Adding a grade each year, the school's enrollment in 2000, preschool through grade twelve, was 333 students.
The school building housing Fuchs Mizrachi was purchased from the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School Board in 1994 after eight years of renting space at Taylor Road Synagogue and Taylor Academy in Cleveland Heights and Northwood Elementary School in University Heights. The school is fully accredited by the Ohio State Board of Education and is a member of The Religious Zionists of America (Mizrachi). It remains the only Jewish day school of its kind in Cleveland.
The Fuchs Mizrachi School Records, 1983-2000, consist primarily of minutes, newsletters, yearbooks, and scrapbooks.
